Ron Hull Junior's End of Life Vehicle Depollution staff inspect all scrapped vehicles and undertake legally required identity checks (V5C and photo driving licence/passport ID checks) prior to de-registering the vehicle and accepting it.

The de-pollution and component recovery process then starts ......

Scrapped vehicles have all airbags deployed and are then stripped of their wheels and batteries and then drained of all other operational fluids (all of which is either re-used or recycled)

Waste Oil, Fuel and Brake Fluid is collected and taken to specialist processing plants for recycling

Oil Filters are sent for processing to separate the metal from the oil, with the resultant oil processed along with other waste oil and the metal recycled into new steel

Batteries are largely made of plastic (polypropylene) and lead. Casings are processed into new battery casings and lead recycled into new lead plates and other battery parts

Around 50 million waste Tyres are produced each year, with approximately 70,000 tonnes originating from ELVs. Alternative recycling ranges from incineration in cement kilns for energy recovery, re-sale of part-worn or re-treaded tyres to re-using granulated tyres in sports surfaces and road construction

The engine is then stripped from the car and sorted ready for the furnace

The engines are then placed in a furnace where all the aluminium castings are melted off, leaving pure aluminium which we then poured into ingot moulds

The aluminium ingots are then sold onto aluminium plants to recycle into new aluminium products

The burnt engine blocks (minus aluminium) are then stripped of all cogs by machine and hand

and re-sold to the iron and steel industries as furnace feed or for smelting and recycling back into steel and iron products

The rest of the car is then crushed, baled and sold to a shredding plant for re-cycling back as steel products
